Julian Gillard set a record in Australia’s history, as she became the first woman prime minister, raising the number of simultaneous female world leaders to fourteen, when power-brokers ousted Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

With Rosa Otunbayeva being sworn in as president of the troubled republic of Kyrgyzstan, this number has increased once again.

Violent street riots in April, which ousted President Kurmanbek Bakiyev , resulted with Mrs Otunbayeva taking over power as the new president.

As the foreign minister became the first woman president of an ex-communist Central Asian country, Otunbayeva, created even more history. Her swearing in came hard on the heels of a referendum on a new constitution, which mandated the region’s first parliamentary democracy.

Including three ruling Queens and four female Govenor Generals, women dominate the worldwide scene.

Yet even on a provincial basis, females are in the front position. If you live in Sydney, Australia, you would be under all female heads.

•   Queen Elizabeth as Head of State,
•   Governor General, Quentin Bryce
•   Prime Minister Julia Gillard,
•   New South Wales Governor Marie Bashir,
•   Kristina Keneally is Premier of New South Wales,
•   Lord Mayor of Sydney is Clover More and
•   Tanya Plibersek as Federal Representative.

No wonder Sydney hosts the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of Sussan Women’s Fun Run, where the organizers anticipate around 5,000 entrants will join Australia’s premier women.

Hundreds of Australian women will meet to discover contemporaneous leadership, as Sydney hosts the Australian Women’s Leadership Symposium. During the two day program, female leaders from all sectors and industries will be opened to state-of-the-art leadership thinking, presented first-hand by trainers and academics and Australia’s distinguished inspirational leaders.

Managing Director of Napoleon Perdis, Emanuel Perdis, will face the female gauntlet and be the only male guest speaker.

On one front however, Sydney has remained adamant. The Anglican diocese has firmly refused to agree to women being ordained as priests. Sydney has consequently set itself aside from every other Australian Anglican Dioceses. Any woman priest moving from an outside location into the Sydney diocese, is ‘demoted’ to being known as merely a deacon.

This situation has become a source of hostility and even involved a court action, as Sydney tried to influence other dioceses to adhere their stand.
