The Puppy Mill Project to Protest Collar and Leash!

Pet Store on North Wells Subject to Controversy over Treatment of Puppies!

July 14, 2010 - PRLog -- Chicago, IL- … Cari Meyers, founder of The Puppy Mill Project announced today there will be a protest against Collar and Leash, a pet store at 1435 N. Wells between 1:00 and 3:00 PM on Saturday, July 17.

According to Meyers, “Former employees of the store have complained of animal cruelty and the pet store has dogs that have been constantly confined to their small cages for up to a year.”

The purpose of the protest is twofold: To draw attention to the conditions the puppies are kept at the Collar and Leash, and to make the public aware of the connection between pet stores such as the Collar and Leash and puppy mills.

On the Collar and Leash web site http://www.collar-and-leash.com/ the claim is made that “All our puppies and kittens come from private breeders.”

However, a review of the store written by Janie B. which can be found http://www.yelp.com/biz/collar-and-leash-chicago suggests that this is not true.

Janie B. writes, “I went in here one day to look at the puppies way up on the third floor.  I asked for info on one dog  breeder.  I went home and looked it up on the USDA's web site and it was a large commercial dog breeder in Bloomfield Iowa. Not only are the places they buy the dogs from horrible, the store reminded me of a puppy mill in itself!”

The comments made about Collar and Leash at  http://www.yelp.com/biz/collar-and-leash-chicago are overwhelmingly negative about the generally unsanitary and confined conditions in which the puppies are kept.

Individuals who  wish to learn more about  The Puppy Mill Project  or who wish to  participate in the protest should email info@thepuppymillproject.org.

The Puppy Mill Project also supports state and federal legislation that protects dogs from the inhumane treatment they receive in puppy mills. Along with many community events they also organize demonstrations against businesses that sell puppy mill dogs. The organization's website is www.thepuppymillproject.org
