Columbus, Ohio - July 13, 2010 - Clarke Columbus Consulting is now taking submissions for it’s premier edition of FirstBook Ohio. As Central Ohio’s only coupon book featuring African American businesses, FirstBook aims to help businesses pool their resources to garner a larger, multi-cultural customer base.
The free book will be published semi-annually with its first Fall edition due in September. The idea for FirstBook stemmed from one man’s frustration with trying to buy local items and support businesses within the community.
“‘Buy local’ are not just buzzwords in our home,” Clarke, co-owner and director of Business Networking Services, said. “We try to find local sources for the majority of our goods and services, but there are times when its not possible and it’s not because the businesses aren’t there, they are there, but unless you live in the neighborhood or hear about them via word-of-mouth you’ll have a tough time finding them.”
Clarke Columbus Consulting designed FirstBook Ohio to level the playing field for businesses. Low advertising rates ensure the smallest “mom and pop” African American business can have the same opportunity for ad space as the larger, multi-million dollar African American corporations in Columbus. In turn all of the businesses that participate have an opportunity to shine before a large metropolitan Columbus customer base.
“The coupon book is not a new concept. We’re not re-inventing the wheel here, but we are using a concept that we know works, that is successful within the Columbus community and using it to boost local African American businesses. Advertising isn’t cheap, but when a group of businesses get together to pool their resources - everyone benefits,” Clarke said.
