July 12, 2010 - PRLog -- On June 11th Girma Dali made its debut on the first day of the 2010 World Cup. John Gorman, the author of "Shades of Luz" had initially started the project as a challenge to himself in order to get back on novel-writing track. Gorman, who is no stranger to novel-writing, has twice won the NaNO writing competitions in 2006 and 2009 respectively. He wanted to sink his teeth into something new and wasn't even sure his idea about a Kenyan Football star was going to materialize into anything, but a one-page outline. He wrote each day throughout the World Cup and posted to his brand new blog named after his title character, Girma Dali.

He had some decent traffic that first week, but then people seemed to lose interest or so Gorman said.

"I think people want to watch the Cup and not tangle with stories. Mine is not commentary and predictions. My story is fiction and it is about The Harambee Stars who are not, you know, a household name."

Gorman is drawn to projects that one might consider small fry. He calls them outliers like Malcolm Gladwell's best-seller.

"I kept at it because I love writing about new things, doing research. There is nothing better than discovering things, pushing your artistic envelope. What's a flop?"

So far Gorman has been building a steady readership. It is not where he wants it to be but it is building. He isn't the least bit concerned with turning it into a major publishing house book deal. He wants to keep it as independent as possible. With the Paradigm Shift in publishing giving more power to the smaller fries he feels he can take bigger risks without having to feel the pressure of selling out and dumbing down hjs style to please an editor or an agent.

"I can see Girma Dali getting its second wind strictly word of mouth. That's fine by me," Gorman said. "The feedback is in my readership. Truth is I have been neglecting my Paper Cut blog and I really haven't put much into the Kindle release of Shades of Luz, but I just so hooked on Girma Dali for now."

It seems that there are some professional football players who have been following this amazing new story. With the World Cup over now there may be more time for fans worldwide to latch onto this new Fever Pitch.
