July 12, 2010 - PRLog -- The Radon Tee World Trek 2010 has come to Massachusetts. Introduced by CanSAR (Cancer Survivors Against Radon), the Radon Tee symbolizes the need for every homeowner to test their homes for radon and fix it if the radon level is high. Radon is the number one cause of lung cancer in nonsmokers, but radon-induced lung cancer deaths can be prevented by a simple home radon test.

In support of CanSAR, David Naggar, Director of Marketing for Spruce Envionmental Technologies, volunteered to captain the team that is taking the Radon Tee on a radon public awareness tour in Massachusetts. From Massachusetts, the Radon Tee will be traveling to North Carolina and beyond. Photos from the tour will be added to the social media campaign at http://www.facebook.com/radontee.

The Radon Tee’s Massachusetts visit was kicked off June 9-11, 2010, at an annual meeting and continuing education conference hosted by the New England Chapter of the American Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists (NE AARST). NE AARST is dedicated to serving the educational and business needs of New England radon professionals and to saving lives by protecting the public through the promotion of radon awareness and radon testing and mitigation by qualified professionals. For more information about NE AARST, go to http://www.neaarst.org.

Radon, an odorless, invisible, tasteless, radioactive gas can be present in any home. Massachusetts – and most of New England – is at higher risk for elevated radon levels than the national average. In fact, a Massachusetts DEP study of homes in Essex County reported that more than one-third of homes tested had radon levels higher than the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) recommended action level of 4.0 pCi/L. The EPA estimates that more than 700 Massachusetts residents die each year from radon-induced lung cancer.

The Radon Tee message is clear: Reduce Radon. Save Lives.
