From volunteer to staff member, Sheila McKnight takes her varied background experiences to help promote The J.C. Coleman Foundations' website.
From Sheila McKnight; Experience is the best teacher, so the saying goes and that's what I've received from The J.C. Coleman Foundation. From the beginning as a volunteer, I was asked to assist around the office. Taking on projects like researching philanthropy organizations, hand addressing post cards for mail campaigns, to viewing webinars about the business of non-profits, on a part time basis, my experience continues to grow.
Working with a group of people whose mission is to improve academic achievement and the attitude toward academics of At-Risk adolescents through a variety of creative, innovative, non-traditional and collaborative support services has been a life changing event.
The Foundation works in partnership with the John S. Delaware Recreation Center in hosting an after school program. On occasion I've been involved with helping the children with their homework and enrichment lessons giving me added insight into the complexity of the at-risk youths' overall situation.
With the generosity of the CEO and President, Dr. Jo Ann Coleman, I've been allowed to expand my experiences in subjects relating to the understanding and support for the youth of today.
Experiencing the website is an awesome endeavor. The range of duties include inputting content management, setting up image galleries, making video shows and uploading them to the website and so forth. In this position I have the oppertunity to experience my creative side and make decisions to positively promote the website. And for that, I am thankful.
