Following the Racing Post’s World Cup Betting Brains successful prediction about Spain and Holland contesting the World Cup Final the paper received shock news today that Paul the psychic Octopus has issued a ‘come and get me’ plea to join their pool of peerless football tipsters.
Paul’s clinical tipping accuracy during the World Cup had already attracted the Racing Post’s attention, while their team of tipsters were enjoying similary prophetic picks.
“We’re delighted Paul and his agent are interested in wetting their beaks”, claimed one Racing Post staffer. “ There’s a mutual respect and desire to win. We’ve lost a number of desks trying to accommodate a decent sized aquarium, and we now need to work out how to get a phone in his water- filled office”
Indeed, it emerged that Paul already has a connection with the nation’s favourite sports and betting daily paper, from his time at the Sea Life Centre, Weymouth. Racing Post’s sports journalist of the year and Weymouthian Steve Palmer had already struck up an unlikely friendship when Paul was in training there.
“Some of his selections were quite naïve, but he’s certainly no sucker” said Palmer about his cephalopod friend.
Paul the Octopus was unavailable for comment.
