Scared Hitless Finishes the Regular Season Strong

Only the Post Season Remains for the Defending Champs

July 12, 2010 - PRLog -- The City of Rockville Men’s Softball league finished its rain-soaked regular season last night with the last round of previously postponed games.  While some teams were unlucky enough to have to play a four spot of games last night, Scared Hitless had only a pair to make up against the Burger King clad Stallions.

In the front end of the double header, Scared Hitless was initially thrown off by the side spinning Stallion pitcher but after seeing a few pitches, the boys found their rhythm.  Driving in a few runs each inning, per the new team credo, Scared Hitless was able to take the lead and hang on to it for the remainder of the game.  Aiding in the victory was Dan Maggin who went 4-4 and Brian “B-Lo” Lord who lined triple off the left center fence surprising the Stallions (but not Scared Hitless).  Brian ended up 6-8 on the evening.

The second half of the evening was a little more difficult as the Stallions jumped on the ball from the get go.  After a few early runs the boys in green found themselves in the hole.  Never discouraged, the Scared Hitless batters used their respective skills to close the gap.  A few long extra base hits and some small ball later, Scared Hitless was back in the game hunting for the lead.  Scoring a few runs every inning, the boys were back ahead.  A two run blast by Chris Ricketts put a few insurance runs behind the boys and they never looked back taking the game by a four run margin.

Excellent performances were put on by the entire team especially Tommy Ricketts who, fresh off the DL, pitched a complete second game and looked to already be in mid-season form. The defense was solid as usual with excellent play by outfielders Chris Morley, Ben Maggin, Brad King, and Ryan Wicher.  The first and third base corners were expertly guarded by Ryan Grant and Dan Maggin, while the middle infield was covered by Kyle Sourk and Brian Lord.  Chris Ricketts behind the plate finished off the 10 man brick wall of defense known as Scared Hitless.

While not finishing in first place overall, Scared Hitless has earned themselves a top seed in the qualifier tournament to be played tonight at Broome Athletic Fields starting at 6:00 with Scared Hitless’ first game at 7:00.  Only the winner advances to the City Championships and it will take three strong victories by the boys in green to advance.  Thanks again to the fans and supporters.  See you tonight at Broome.
