First published in April, the online magazine for those with lupus, namely The Lupus Magazine, has grown to reach a readership from all corners of the globe.
Put simply, lupus is a complicated, terrible disease where the immune system attacks its own tissues. There are different types of lupus. SLE Lupus is the most common and the most devastating. Along with cutaneous lupus, it is well known there is no cure for these two forms of the condition. Then there is drug induced lupus, where the symptoms generally disappear after quitting the offending medicine.
Editor Geoff Thomas says he is not surprised by the far-reaching figures.
"Lupus is a global concern and troubles people from hundreds of countries. The aim of The lupus Magazine is to educate the lupus community in an uplifting way. We also offer young writers a chance to become published.
I just want the magazine to be all inclusive despite where we live, who we worship or who we love - we all have something terrible in common and that's having a form of lupus.
So no... it doesn't surprise me that people from Milano are just as interested in lupus news as those from Maui. We have a growing number of readers from Europe and in a way, The Lupus Magazine has brought a lot of nationalities together.
The Lupus Magazine was established as a fresh, up-beat website for those with lupus around the world. Published monthly, with important news updates as they happen, we hope to grow while spreading awareness as we strive for a cure for lupus."
The Lupus Magazine has recently featured interviews with high-profile artists and celebrities such as Lorie Streeter, Jenny Myers, Johnny Trash and Morgan Woolard - Miss USA Runner-Up.
