It's 1992 and Kurt Cobain's screams roar from every car stereo. Grunge rules. Seattle is the new rock 'n' roll center of the universe. It’s two Massachusetts filmmakers, however-- Adam Linn and April Mosqus, who are bringing this rock'n'roll story to the Woods Hole Film Festival in Falmouth, MA next month.
“We’re honored that the Woods Hole Film Festival has chosen to screen Before We Get
to Seattle. I've screened here in the past and without a doubt it is the most filmmaker-friendly festival I've ever attended,” says Linn who took the top prize at Woods Hole in the experimental category in 2005.
Despite now living in Brooklyn, both Mosqus and Linn have very strong ties to the
Bay State. Mosqus grew up in Lawrence, MA, while Linn split his time between Dorchester and Marstons Mills.
“It’s so exciting to be premiering in my home state,” says Mosqus who graduated from Bradford College in Haverhill before moving to Los Angeles where she worked in film and television for several years before settling in New York City in 2007. Linn and Mosqus met in 2008 and collaborated on the film. They joined with Executive Producer, Joe Raposo, Jr, who also has ties to the New England area. Raposo has family roots in Fall River, was born in Cambridge and spent the summers of his youth in Chatham.
Mosqus and Linn co-wrote and directed Before We Get to Seattle. The film is set in the
1990s and tells the story of a teenage runaway named Chloe, a girl with big dreams and her heart set on getting out of her East Coast town and running off to Seattle in search of rock 'n’ roll stardom. The film also includes music by the former Boston rock band, Come, and also music by the seminal Seattle rock band, Mudhoney.
The short film was inspired by the feature-length film Mosqus and Linn wrote together
called, Heartbreaker, that is currently in pre-production. The film is set in Massachusetts and the filmmakers hope to shoot it there.
Before We Get to Seattle will screen on Friday, August 6 at 9:00 p.m. at the Old Woods
Hole Fire Station. More information on the festival is available at
