Salon.com's Glenn Greenwald Reneges on Distribution Deal with Ex-Hacker Adrian Lamo

July 10, 2010 - PRLog -- "If for whatever reason, you feel like there's something unfair,
inaccurate, or even if you want to add something, I will publish along
with what I publish any statement that you want to make ... I will
publish in full whatever you want to write."

These were the words spoken in minute 57 of the Salon.com Adrian Lamo/Glenn Greenwald interview tape. Greenwald, who was interviewing Lamo in regards to the Bradley Manning/Wikileaks spying case.

PFC. Bradley Manning, 22, was arrested by military authorities in May after Lamo revealed that he was passing information to de facto hostile foreign intelligence service Wikileaks.org.

Lamo's response was eventually published by Cryptome.org, Wikileaks' main competitor - a site which Valleywag scathingly lumped into a so-called "Team Lamo" in a recent op-ed, drawing Greenwald's ire.

Lamo hit back, telling Greenwald in an e-mail exchange: "You can man up and do what you said you'd do, or see it (Lamo's piece) run elsewhere, with the more damning addendum that you've welched on your word. What /can/ you be trusted on, Mr. Greenwald? I suggest you establish a beachhead in that area here."

Salon.com's Greenwald declined Lamo's advice, instead replying: "Feel free to try to convince people ..."

Wikileaks, which true to its name makes its living leaking sensitive and classified material, primarily U.S.-related, has had a long and strange relationship with Greenwald, who has been described as the site's "primary cheerleader."

Adrian Lamo is a threat analyst and journalist, known as a former grey hat hacker, principally for breaking into a series of high-security computer networks, and his subsequent arrest.

Best known among these were his intrusions into The New York Times. Yahoo! News and Microsoft, and most recently-reported Salon.com. He is also known for identifying security flaws in computer networks of Fortune 500 companies and then notifying them of any flaws he found.

He also informed the authorities of the identity of a US Army Intelligence Specialist who is alleged to be the source of the July 12, 2007 Baghdad airstrike video leak to Wikileaks, among many other classified documents.
