1. Our English-speaking guide will pick you up at your hotel between 7:30-8:00am.
2. We will then head directly to the Olympic Park, the center of the 2008 Olympics. On all sides around you, you can see the grand structures that showcased the greatest athletes in the world.
3. We will first head to the “Bird’s Nest”, otherwise known as Beijing National Stadium. This iconic structure hosted the glorious opening ceremonies of the Olympics, and is still in use today to host events such as skiing and opera. It will take about 40 minutes to explore the structure.
4. Then we will walk the short distance to the Water Cube, which hosted the swimming and diving events of the Olympics. This is the scene of Michael Phelps’ record-shattering performances.
5. You then have a chance to get some traditional handicrafts and curios at a local market. Be sure to bargain hard, because you can often get something at half the asking price. Our guide will give you a hand!
6. After a refreshing Chinese lunch, we will make the drive across town to the 798 Art Zone, Beijing’s hip neighborhood for avant garde art. The 798 Art Zone is Beijing’s ground zero for new, iconoclastic ideas and expression, sort of like a Beijing version of Greenwich Village.
7. After strolling around the neighborhood for an hour, we will drive to the center of town to the Beijing National Center for the Performing Arts, otherwise known as “The Bubble” for its distinctive shape. This futuristic building is a symbol of Beijing’s rapid modernization drive, and it will take about an hour to examine “The Bubble.”
8. We will then drop you off at your hotel, ending your day’s tour.
