PRLog (Press Release) - Jul 09, 2010 -
The Starship Wonderland Film Fest & Talent Show happens at Bohemeo's in Houston on Saturday, August 7th at 7 PM. The event staff is currently calling for short films between 2 and 15 minutes for the film fest and acts between 2 and 5 minutes for the talent show. Awards will be presented for Best Short Film, Most Outrageous Short as well as 1st and 2nd Prize in talent show.
This event is a fundraiser for the Starship Wonderland Project and will also have other activities in addition to the film fest and talent show. There will be a silent auction, kissing booth, and much more. The cover charge is $5.00 for non-contestants and this event is open to all ages.
John Johnson is the man behind the curtain for this event. John is a Houston born filmmaker that graduated from the Art Institute of Houston. The Starship Wonderland Short Film will be his fourth film project. John’s first film was “Operation Bloody Station” which was a fan film based on Joss Whedon’s “Firefly” television series. Not long after finishing his first film John produced “Hadisville Inn”. This film was born from the Iron Director competition at the 2007 ApolloCon Convention in Houston, Texas. John’s third short film “The Viewmaster” was screened last year as is currently in the film festival circuit.
The Starship Wonderland story is a spinoff of “Alice in Wonderland” and tells of Alice’s discovery of her life’s calling. When she meets the mutated alien crew of the Starship Wonderland, she learns that it is up to her to save the Earth from the Red Queen’s evil plot. She is assisted by the ship’s captain M. Hatter and his strange crew. Alien and the Fatman Productions will begin shooting this film later this year.
Bohemeo's is hosting the film fest and talent show event. This art laden coffee house/restaurant is located in Houston’s historic East End and is run by the husband and wife team of Lupe and Sid Olivares. This live music venue and local art gallery boasts a large outdoor patio where you can sit and drink coffee and look back towards the downtown skyline. It is located in the cultural diverse Tlaquepaque Market, a piece of neighborhood shopping history that is now being revived as a cultural magnet.
