July 9, 2010 - PRLog -- Ayrshire, Scotland--Multi-award winning Ayr-based ARPL Architects Ltd have announced that work on the new environmentally friendly primary school being built at Colmonell in South Ayrshire reached a high point last week with the top roof coverings being fitted.

The high-level roofs will be covered in turf sheltering the super-insulated naturally ventilated teaching spaces.

Construction work can now move to the inside, where the building is insulated with recycled newspaper and heated by air source heat pumps.

The project for South Ayrshire Council is being built by Ashleigh Construction to the designs of ARPL Architects Ltd.

ARPL Architects Ltd director Gordon Fleming commented: “The construction work is now moving into a very exciting phase with the internal spaces being formed and the more innovative elements of the building appearing on site.

“The interior is naturally ventilated and all the finishes are natural products, offering a very healthy environment for the children.

“Everyone is greatly looking forward to completion of the one of the greenest buildings in the south-west of Scotland towards the end of the year.”
