The number of temporary appointments continued to increase during June, the latest Recruitment and Employment Confederation and KPMG Report on Jobs has revealed.
Although the rate of growth slowed further last month, demand for professional expertise from temporary agency workers continued to increase in both sectors of the labour market.
Kevin Green, chief executive of the REC, said the figures pointed to a stable jobs market.
He noted that in some sectors, such as construction and engineering, appointment rates are still rapidly growing.
"However, with the predictions of up to 600,000 job losses in the public sector, it is still too early to tell how much of a knock-on effect this will have on job creation in the private sector," he added.
According to the Office for National Statistics, UK unemployment currently stands at 2.47 million people.
