Aurora Students Have Success at National Taekwondo Championships.

Aurora, CO - Students from the Korean Academy of Taekwondo in Aurora, CO competed in the US National Taekwondo Championships and Junior Olympics June 29th-July 4th, 2010. The event featured over 3000 competitors and was held in Orlando, Fl.

July 8, 2010 - PRLog -- Aurora, CO - Students from the Korean Academy of Taekwondo  in Aurora, CO competed in the US National Taekwondo Championships and Junior Olympics June 29th-July 4th, 2010. The event featured over 3000 competitors and was held in Orlando, Fl.

In order to compete at this event, the students were first required to earn a medal in the Colorado State Taekwondo Championships, held May 2nd in Overland high school. Most of the students who competed in Nationals had previously won Gold medals in the Colorado State Championship.

Two students won gold medals in sparring. Grace Kosloski won the 6-7 year old female blue belts lightweight division by defeating CA and IL. Moriah Garcia won the 16-17 year old red belt Welterweight division by defeating AK by almost 20 points.

Three students won silver medals in sparring. Joe Garcia was unable to compete in the finals, after defeating NY in the semifinals due to opponent’s disqualification in the 41-50 Male Red Belt Lightweight division. Lexi Brown lost her finals match in the last few seconds against PA. Chris Moore defeated CT and MA, before falling in the final match to MI in the 16-17 male green belt Middleweight division. Two students won bronze medals in the sparring competition. Iman Dwebi defeated Texas before falling to CA in the 14-15 female red belt welterweight division. Joe Law lost his semifinals match against the eventual gold medalist from VA in the 16-17 male red belt welterweight division.

In addition to this, Lexi Brown won a bronze medal and Moriah Garcia picked up a silver in their respective forms divisions.

Several other students competed and progressed into the tournament, but ultimately were unsuccessful in winning medals. These students included Marcus Risley, Rachel Wijaya, Joshua Kosloski, June Lee, and Patrick Lam.

Taekwondo is a Korean Martial Art that is also a modern Olympic Sport. Now in its 30th year, the Korean Academy of Taekwondo is one of Colorado’s oldest and most successful martial arts schools.
