The Cambridge-based NHS caterers regularly encourage members of staff to submit entries into a suggestion box, focussing on measurable ways of saving money.
Catering supervisor Peter’s suggestion of using smaller containers when preparing food safety samples at the business’ Ida Darwin base will save an estimated annual £5,000.
To thank Peter for the idea, he was presented with a £100 shopping voucher by Lifespan Catering Services head of catering, Trevor Colcomb.
Trevor said: “Peter’s idea is simple yet highly effective, and has been able to demonstrate a substantial annual saving to the NHS – without compromising the service we provide to our customers.
“We hope that more and more of our staff will be encouraged by Peter’s performance and submit their own suggestions in the future.”
Lifespan Catering Services produces around 32,000 portions of food for hospital patients each day.
The ‘cook chill’ meals are delivered to hospitals in Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Leicester, Essex and London.
Well done to Lifespan Catering Services catering supervisor Peter Pearson – presented with his prize by head of catering Trevor Colcomb.
