July 7, 2010 - PRLog -- NEWTOWN, CT — TÜVRheinland®, the worldwide leader in global market access, has acquired Rail Sciences, Inc. (RSI), a premier rail industry consulting firm and train dynamics specialist headquartered in Atlanta, Ga. with an advanced testing and metallurgical analysis laboratory in Omaha, Neb.

“Because of its service portfolio, industry reputation and broad client base in the rail and non-rail fields, RSI is a great strategic fit for TÜVRheinland’s Guided Transport Systems business both domestically and internationally. There is currently no other firm in the U.S. or Canada that can match RSI’s expertise,” said Stephan Schmitt, President and CEO of TUV Rheinland North America Holding, Inc.

In 2006, TÜVRheinland expanded its Guided Transport Systems Division into North America.  The division tests and certifies railroad components and systems for manufacturers globally. The addition of RSI and its materials engineering test laboratory further adds depth to the services TÜVRheinland provides in the U.S. and Canada.

“Becoming part of the TUV Rheinland Group will allow Rail Sciences to expand its global footprint. In conjunction with TÜVRheinland’s offerings, we will now be able to offer clients the most extensive portfolio in our market sector,” said Gary Wolf, CEO of Rail Sciences.

Founded in 1987, RSI serves rail industry clients worldwide, providing its unique blend of analytical consulting services and materials engineering expertise to the industry.  The company specializes in testing, assessment, certification, consulting, engineering and training.  Specialties include train and vehicle dynamic studies, computer simulations, derailment investigations, track inspections, rail grinding programs, operational analysis and risk assessment.

At its disposal, RSI has a materials engineering and testing service through its DBA, RSI Materials Engineering (RSIME).  Located in an 18,000-square-foot facility in Omaha, Neb., RSIME offers applied mechanical and materials engineering expertise to the rail and non-rail industries.  Some of the subsidiary’s capabilities include failure analysis and root cause investigation, materials and component testing, finite element modeling, and expert witness services. RSMI provides standard material evaluations, in accordance with ASTM, NIST, SAE, ANSI, ASM and ISO Standards.

Additionally, RSI has shared its rail industry and engineering expertise through a variety of training courses and seminars. Its Web-based derailment cause finding and prevention course, TransportationU.com, has hosted over 6,000 technical training students worldwide.  RSI also has a selection of specialized software products to help rail industry clients improve efficiency and increase overall rail performance.
