July 7, 2010 - PRLog -- NORCROSS, Georgia – “Ashworthy Causes”, Ashworth College’s (http://www.ashworthcollege.edu) on-going community outreach program, has kicked off its latest military focused initiative, “Operation Backpack Brigade” in support of Georgia’s Operation Homefront, a non-profit organization that has met more than 105,000 needs of military families.

From now through July 20th, the Georgia-based online college administration and staff will help fill as many children’s school backpacks as possible. Ashworth College has provided the backpacks and now the staff has been challenged to fill them with basic school supplies such as pens, pencils, erasers, notebooks , markers, rulers, glue sticks, calculators.

“Ashworth College’s background provides the perfect opportunity for us to support the best of both worlds,” said Melissa Maddox, Ashworth’s Military Education Manager.  “Not only are we a global leader in online education, we also have a huge presence in  providing active duty  military personnel and military spouses affordable educational programs that are conducive to military life. Supporting “Operation Backpack Brigade” allows us to give back to military families by providing basic educational supplies for their children.”

The annual fundraiser provides an average $300 savings to military families who have children starting school this fall. Last year “Operation Backpack Brigade” provided over 1,500 backpacks statewide to children across all military branches. Ashworth plans to help exceed that goal in 2010.

Known as a leading provider of nationally accredited online education programs, Ashworth College is also recognized by GI Jobs as a 2010 Military Friendly School®. Ashworth also prides itself in its community outreach endeavors and regularly supports many organizations such as Mothers Against Drunk Driving, The Atlanta Community Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, The American Cancer Society, The Salvation Army, March of Dimes, and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
