Studio City, CA – For the first time, "Cowboy Artist to the Stars™" Al Shelton has created a two (CD) compact disc autobiographical audio book. Al Shelton has also authorized seven collectible Giclee western art prints. The new prints, available from Artisan StudioWorks, are taken from the personal collection of the artist. The new art prints include five oils and two water colors. Al is an entertaining storyteller through his western paintings, prose and music.
Currently ninety years old, celebrated Western artist Al Shelton is well known for his leather craft and buckle designs. In fact, his latest project is a hand tooled leather guitar cover commissioned by Martin Guitar Company for their museum.
Al began his career as a cowboy in northeastern Colorado in the late 1930’s. Al’s artwork reflects his experience in those days as a ranch hand and horse breaker. Influenced by western artists Charles M. Russell and Olaf Wieghorst, Al began painting in the 1950's.
Al's work is collected by many Hollywood celebrities including, Tom Selleck, Burt Reynolds, Angie Dickinson, Jackie Chan, Sylvester Stallone, Gene Autry, President Ronald Reagan and many others. Examples of Al’s artwork can be found in the Autry National Center collection, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and other museums. In fact, the Autry National Center honored Al Shelton on June 20th, 2010 by celebrating his 90th birthday at the museum. A three month display of Al's work in now being presented in the Spirit of Imagination gallery at the Autry Center.
Many of his stories are included in the new Living History audio book. In addition to his narrative, Al plays guitar and sings old western songs on the two (CD) compact disc set. Rick Nelson’s son, Matthew Nelson is featured on the CD and sings one of his Dad’s hits from the fifties (“Lonesome Town”). It should be noted that Al Shelton made all of the original hand tooled leather guitar covers for Rick Nelson. The Living History audio book also includes sixty-five historical photographs to be viewed electronically.
The highly collectible fine art western prints include the historical CD set and a signed Certificate of Authenticity. The collection is available in both open edition and signed limited edition sizes for the western art lover.
