Englewood, NJ: ArtWorks, a non-profit organization that provides creative arts programming to children and young adults suffering from chronic and life-threatening illnesses, is collaborating with Elephant Ensemble Theater, a company devoted to bringing free children’s theater to hospitals and clinics, to bring the production of The Busy Little Bee to eight healthcare facilities throughout the New York metropolitan area.
The Busy Little Bee tells the story of a lazy worker bee who is forced to venture out of her hive to pollinate a flower. Through the little bee’s journey, children learn the importance of honey bees for the environment, and interesting facts about her fellow insect friends, who also teach their audience simple words and phrases in five different languages. The Busy Little Bee emphasizes the importance of work ethic, good friends, and how small efforts make a big difference in the world at large.
On Wednesday, July 13, 2010, ArtWorks and Elephant Ensemble Theater will bring the tour of The Busy Little Bee to the Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center in New York, NY. ESPC is a healthcare organization that provides quality specialized nursing / rehabilitation care to medically fragile children with differing levels of abilities. Patients will benefit greatly from the interactive nature of Elephant Ensemble Theater’s production combined with ArtWorks’ art activity designed around the production.
Other stops on the 2010 tour of The Busy Little Bee include PSE&G Children’s Specialized Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey; Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx; The Ronald McDonald House in Manhattan; Maimonides Infants and Children’s Hospital of Brooklyn; Bellevue Hospital Center; and Saint Joseph's Children's Hospital.
The Busy Little Bee 2010 tour is made possible by funding from the Ira Sohn Foundation.
Founded in 2002, ArtWorks provides children and young adults suffering from chronic and life-threatening illnesses, and their siblings, access to creative and performing arts programs that encourage the use of the creative process as a vehicle for healing, communication, self-expression and personal development. ArtWorks seeks to empower, validate, and honor these children by offering them the hands-on experience and materials with which to create, as well as the opportunity to publicly share their artistic accomplishments.
