When BX Merchandise were asked to produce promotional imprinted organic cotton t-shirts to promote the UK's first urban currency - the Brixton Pound (B£) - director Sarah Sayed showed her support for the scheme by suggesting she accept full payment in the special notes.
To reflect Brixton's Transition Town status - which makes it one of several localities working to equip its community to tackle the dual challenges of peak oil and climate change - Miss Sayed offered the B£ organisers shirts from her eco friendly promotional products range.
"It's good for the world and great business to satisfy people's desire for ethically-produced or transported goods these days. I immediately knew that anyone with a passion for igniting a new local currency would prefer to wear a t-shirt which didn't harm the world during its production process," said Miss Sayed.
"We will always strive to offer the best merchandising solution based on the particular product or business you want to promote and we specialize in eco friendly promotional products and clothing.
“To advertise such an empowering movement on an organic Fairtrade t-shirt is more in keeping with the ethos of the B£," she added.
The t-shirts - which depict political activist Olive Morris and the words Brixton Power - are being sold across the town to raise awareness of Brixton bills.
Brixton Pound notes come in B£1, B£5, B£10 and B£20 denominations and are accepted at around 160 local establishments.
