TULSA NATIVE CREATES LIFE-SAVING MEDICAL ID CARD
Pam Crookham Survives Heart Attack, Now on Mission to Save Others’ Lives.

Tulsa, Oklahoma, July 2, 2010 - Only a few years after losing her husband (Dan Crookham) to a major heart attack, Pam Crookham was scared to notice she was having early warning signs of a heart attack herself. Luckily, she checked herself into St. Francis Hospital immediately. Thankfully, under their care she survived the heart attack and had two arterial stents put in. She left the hospital realizing how important accurate medical information can be when it comes to saving your life.

Ever since 2005, Pam carries a card listing all of her medications and health conditions. She uses it when she visits her specialist doctors as well as at her general practitioner and when she fills prescriptions at various pharmacies. This prevents dangerous mixing of medications. It also acts as a safeguard in a time of emergency, because all of the information needed to save her life is listed on an easily accessible card.

The response Pam receives from the medical professionals she presents her card to is enthusiastic, to say the least. Nurses often tell her “I wish everyone had one of these, it sure makes my job easier!” After her heart attack, Pam focused on her health. She realized that many people must be facing their own emergency medical incidents. Having all of their medical information in one convenient place could be of great benefit, possibly even life-saving.

With the collaboration of her daughter, Darla Snyder, she developed her medical information card into a life-saving product. Now Pam and her daughter are on a mission to spread the word about the importance of accurate medical information. “Many people don’t realize that if you have several doctors and fill at more than one pharmacy, that no one person has all of your current medical information available to them. If you have a medical emergency and can’t speak, who will tell the EMT’s all of your information?” asks Darla. She goes on to point out that the burden rests in the hands of the patients, not the doctors. To avoid dangerous drug interactions, patients are responsible for relaying information such as all medical conditions and all medications taken.

With the growing number of medications people take, accidents are bound to happen. Even the most diligent patients can make mistakes, especially when visiting the doctor for an illness or worse yet, being whisked away to the emergency room from the scene of an auto accident. Under stress, memories and ability to recall crucial spellings and dosages can be compromised, and these are the times when accuracy matters most.

This is why Pam and her family feel a sense of urgency to get the word out about Pulse Card, their new product. Pulse Card goes a step beyond traditional medic alert jewelry. It clearly states existing health conditions, like diabetes, heart disease, or epilepsy and the medications taken to treat them. At the scene of an accident, every second counts. Medics do not have time to waste fiddling with gadgets and computers to fish for your records. They need to treat you immediately and efficiently; Pulse Card allows them to do so.

Along with being a life saving tool in emergencies, Pulse Card is convenient in every-day life. Often times, people will carry plastic bags stuffed with their prescription bottles to the doctor. This is a potentially dangerous situation; bottles could fall out or, worse yet, be stolen. Pulse Card helps nurses and pharmacists gather vital information about medications you take.

With the interests of health and independence in mind for Tulsa’s active senior community, Pulse Card has partnered with LIFE Senior Services. For the month of July, Pulse Card will donate 10% of all sales to LIFE Senior Services, the premier source for everything senior in Tulsa. Also, for their grand opening, Pulse Card is offering a 20% discount on all orders placed through their website: www.pulse-card.com.

Pam Crookham is happy to be healthy today and is proud that the difficulties she faced can help save the lives of countless others. “I hope no one has to go through scary situations like I have. However, emergency medical situations are often an unavoidable part of life. Being prepared makes these difficult times easier, for both you and the doctors.”

Professional Endorsement:

“I’m Dr. Ellen Schreiber, a board-certified anesthesiologist, and I take care of people like you on multiple medications every day.  I think the Pulse Card is a lifesaver.  There are SO many interactions with anesthesia that your prescriptions may cause! If you come in for elective surgery, anesthetists need to choose the best sleep plan for you, and if you need emergency surgery in an accident, it is invaluable to have your Pulse Card on hand. We not only see your list of medications, but we can tell what medical problems you have! An allergy can be a devastating complication during an operation, because anesthesia masks the signs of anaphylaxis. Your allergies are a very important part of your information to give to your doctor, but none of us wear allergy bracelets! You may be in pain or too anxious to convey the vital information your doctors need to know. Or, if you’ve had a crash, you may rely on the Pulse Card alone. Keep your Pulse Card in your wallet. Give one to your spouse or your best friend. We’ll benefit from the information. And, you will, too…” ---Dr. Ellen Schreiber, MD
