Software must be easy to learn and implement, must be less costly to buy and install across the fleet. Data population time is minimised to simply selecting from pre-loaded, shipping related drop down lists, edited and maintained by shore based staff applying consistency across the fleet. Staff training is reduced to a minimum with the Microsoft® Excel® platform. All programs come with very well illustrated and documented Help and User Manuals written in a language that is common within the shipping industry.

Seaxl® has taken the use of the well known and widely used Microsoft® Excel® platform to another dimension and applied this to the shipping industry to reduce costs, improve communication and implement effective consistency across any company. Its unique Import/Export utility with the ability to transfer “only data” between locations collects completed data entries and packages them into small manageable files. Files are automatically named and filed by the system and are very easy to locate irrespective who performs the work. Data files are very small in size and if zipped will range in most cases, between 15k to 75k, making data transfer very fast and cost effective. It is only “data” that is being transferred and not, as is usually the norm, of transferring complete Excel® workbooks. Using the Import Utility you simply import the data files into a similar Seaxl® program. The system has been tried and tested and works very well and requires little if no maintenance.
To ensure the integrity of the data and the ease of use of the software many validation checks have been implemented throughout all the products and many useful tools such as highlighter bars will follow your every move to assist you in updating data quickly and correctly, the integrity and security of formulas and their results are protected and the extensive use of built in libraries ensures uniformity. You do not have to download data into Excel® and manipulate this with additional overhead time, effort and necessary knowhow. All calculations are protected and misuse and corruption of data and formulas are secure which meets the highest legal requirements for corporate governance. As an example the Crew Payroll is completed automatically for the Master simply by selecting the appropriate Wage Scale to be applied to each specific Seaman.
The five products presently available from Seaxl® Marine Software are CashFlow, Masters General Account / Portage Bill (MGA), Ships Budgets, The Ship and Company Secretary. There are an additional five programs that will be unveiled during 2010.
Computer literacy is a huge problem with IT especially where this has to be implemented at a distance away from the office and on board the ships where crew changes are inevitable and retraining and conformity becomes a huge overhead.
