Executive Director Of Local Non-profit Receives Distinguished Service Award

On June 24, 2010 the Faith in Action Caregivers - South Austin hosted a retirement event to honor its long time Executive Director, Sister Madeleine Sophie Weber, IHM who was presented with the Distinguished Service Award signed by Austin Mayor.

June 28, 2010 - PRLog -- Austin, Texas – On June 24, 2010 the Faith in Action Caregivers - South Austin hosted a retirement event to honor its long time Executive Director, Sister Madeleine Sophie Weber, IHM. The City of Austin recognized her dedication and presented her with the Distinguished Service Award, signed by Mayor Lee Leffingwell. Attending was a representative from the St. David’s Foundation, St. Edward's University faculty and former students, representatives from the ten Faith in Action Caregivers (FIAC), and other community members. As the Executive Director, she faithfully served the South Austin older adult community for twenty-two years.  

The Faith in Action Caregivers collaboration is the oldest, largest, and most reliable nonprofit provider of free transportation and other services for older adults in Central Texas. Faith in Action Caregivers is actively recruiting volunteer drivers.  In 2009, 2,465 clients received more than 32,609 rides.  To learn more about us, please visit http://www.faithinactioncaregivers.org

About Faith in Action Caregivers, a non-profit organization, which provides services that enhance the independence and quality of life of older adults in the Austin Metropolitan Area. Home-based and community-based services are provided free of charge. No one is excluded from services for financial reasons.

Trained volunteers transport clients to medical appointments, physical therapy sessions, pharmacies and other healthcare related settings. In addition, transportation for buying groceries and for personal errands enhances independence and quality of life. The type of personalized transportation provided by volunteers complements the efforts of families and helps fill the gaps when traditional transit options do not accommodate the special needs of seniors.
