By: Julie Fairbanks McGrath The Joy Source 25 Clark Road Peabody, MA 01960 978-587-7324 Julie@thejoysource.com http://thejoysource.com Supervised playdates and homework after school. Weekly baseball games and practices. Sleepless nights from nightmares. Food shopping, dinner and house responsibilities. Quality time with the husband. And often a full or part-time job. With only twenty-four hours in a day, the typical woman often only has enough time to get the ‘must dos’ done. Forget about allowing some personal ‘me’ time. Rarely is that checked off the ‘must do’ list (if it is even there to begin with). Yet there is a shining light amidst the stress and responsibilities: A native of Peabody, Massachusetts, Julie Fairbanks McGrath founded The Joy Source in 2010 to encourage women to stay true to themselves and their needs. As she entered a new phase of life-motherhood, Ms. McGrath witnessed a startling change. “I saw my friends give up everything for their husbands and children. They were no longer vibrant, joyful women and became overstressed, empty shells of who they once were.” For years, Ms. McGrath toyed with the idea of empowering women to live their lives to its fullest, yet she was balancing her own full-time job in social work, husband and two young children. Last year, she spent a week in California at the ‘Now is the Time to Put Your Dream in Motion’ conference. “Every year I attend these conferences and get rejuvenated, but this time I was inspired into action,” she stated. Using her background in social work and study of personal empowerment, Ms. McGrath created the Joy Course, a six-week workshop series designed to reconnect women to their Joy. The small group atmosphere focuses on topics such as setting boundaries, rediscovering passion, risk taking and goal setting. It is one evening a week for women to share, laugh, relax and grow in a positive direction. She has run two series of the Joy Course and plans to launch them again in the fall when The Joy Source will also present the first “Women’s Day of Joy and Inspiration.” In the meantime, Ms. McGrath has transcribed her thoughts into a printed quarterly newsletter. “I had long thought about sending out a newsletter to all my friends, spreading joy, happy news, nourishment for the soul and sincere blessings. The third edition just went to print and my address list keeps growing. It’s very exciting.” If you’d like to receive more information about The Joy Source, please visit http://thejoysource.com and the blog http://thejoysource.wordpress.com.
