American Lithium Minerals (AMLM.OB), is a U.S.-based mineral exploration company focused on the development of lithium and boron resources in Nevada. The company´s key objective is to develop a world-class lithium project that will capitalize on surging demand for lithium-ion batteries, particularly for hybrid and electric vehicles. Lithium is a high-priority and strategic mineral for the U.S. The country´s green energy legislation and long-term energy policies depend on developing a vibrant, domestic lithium-ion battery manufacturing sector.

American Lithium’s primary asset is the high-grade Borate Hills property in western Nevada , one of the world’s premier known lithium deposits and ranked by previous operator US Borax as the second-largest boron deposit in the U.S. A $4.5 million exploration and development program is aimed at completing an economic pre-feasibility study on the Borate Hills Project to advance the project to the feasibility stage. Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) has agreed to invest $4,000,000 in the Borate Hills Project to be a Joint Venture Partner in the Project

The Borate Hills Project consists of the North Borate Hills and the South Borate Hills project areas which cover over 3,400 acres. The Project is located 20 miles west of Chemetall Foote's Lithium Brine Operation at Clayton Valley; the only operating lithium mine in North America.

Nevada is one of the world´s leading mining regions. The state supports North America´s only commercial lithium mine located 20 miles from Borate Hills. American Lithium intends to develop Borate Hills and its other lithium brine exploration projects through cooperation with international partners.

Lithium is used for batteries, specialty glass, lubricants, pharmaceuticals and lithium alloys. Lithium ion (Li-ion) batteries have become the rechargeable battery of choice with the worldwide market for lithium batteries estimated at over $4 billion per year. Demand for lithium carbonate is expected to increase four-fold over the next decade as demand for of lithium-ion battery-powered hybrid-electric and electric cars rises. GM, Ford, Toyota, Dodge, Chrysler, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Tesla, Saturn and Mercedes-Benz have all announced plans to build Li-ion battery-powered cars and the demand for such vehicles is currently expected to increase five-fold by 2012.

Most Americans use their cell phones day in and day out with little regard to the little battery that keeps our phones working as we use our phone.  Our ability to tirelessly use cell phones (and really most of our electronics) is largely due to the lithium ion batteries that power these electronics.

Lithium batteries are designed to be long lasting, and are among the longest lasting batteries available today.  Because they are also lightweight, they are often used in electronics, particularly small electronics.  However, lithium batteries uses have expanded significantly over the years and now has many commercial and industrial uses, including certain hybrid automobiles.

There is currently only one producer of lithium carbonate in the United States, Chemetall’s Clayton Valley operation in Nevada. The Great Basin of the United States represents excellent potential for the discovery of new lithium brine deposits and American Lithium is well positioned for detection with its projects. Lithium-based batteries are used in everything from mobile phones and laptops, to iPods and iPads, as well as military and medical hardware. They have even made their way into the human body, powering pacemakers.

Lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, and potentially new batteries such as lithium-air, are seen as the best option by many manufacturers over other battery types as they are lightweight and efficient, and can hold more power.
