By: School of Rock “This year the Taste of Minnesota has placed a greater emphasis on family fun and has dedicated an entire area of the festival to the Family Entertainment Village,” said Andy Faris, co-owner and managing partner of the Taste of Minnesota. “It will be an all encompassing area that will entertain, educate and engage every member of the family beginning at 11:00 a.m. daily.” Part of that education will be in the form of guitar lessons provided by the School of Rock. School of Rock guitar teachers, all of whom are working rock musicians, will be on site from 2:00pm – 6:00pm to work individually with kids under 18 years old who want to see how playing a real guitar differs from guitar hero. “Lessons aren’t only for beginners,” said Shane Baskerville, School of Rock’s Music Director. “All kids are invited to take advantage of the free lessons. Whether it’s a teen who is trying to figure out a riff from their favorite Sammy Hagar song or a tween who needs help moving up and down the guitar neck to the child who has never held a guitar, our teachers are trained to work with young musicians of all abilities.” The School of Rock will provide electric guitars and amps for the kids to use. In addition to providing free guitar lessons, the School of Rock’s student show band, Road Crew, is rocking the Music Stage in the Family Entertainment Village twice daily as well as performing on the 93X Main Stage as part of the opening act lineup for The Offspring and 311 on Monday, July 5. The Road Crew is comprised of the Twin Cities most talented youth rock musicians. Ranging in age from 12 to 18, each rocker auditions annually for one of the coveted spots on the Road Crew roster. Families attending Taste of Minnesota will be treated to the music of Heart, Boston and Led Zeppelin as well as other hit rock bands from the 70s, 80s and 90s. Taking place July 2 – 5, 2010, Taste of Minnesota is an annual festival celebrating the best of summer in Minnesota. Now in its 28th year and under new ownership and a new management team, the four-day celebration will offer more than 100 hours of live music on five stages starting at 11 a.m. daily, twice as many restaurants as past years and a Family Entertainment Village.
