Rogue River Outfitters suggests if you enjoy fly fishing this 3 or 4 day float through the wild and scenic section of the Rogue River is for you.  During the time that we fish the canyon a unique fish arrives on the Rogue River.  A smaller Steelhead follows the regular Steelhead and Fall Chinook up river. This fish, the”half-pounder”,  is more than plentiful on the Rogue River…

Referred to as a jack or immature steelhead, they weigh one-half to three pounds and enter the Rogue to feed. Fly-fishing for the half-pounder and Summer Steelhead is at its finest. Our Rogue River Outfitters Canyon Guided Fishing Trips are three or four day drift boat fishing adventures and are available on a limited basis only.

Steelhead with the life-history pattern called “half-pounder” are steelhead that return from their first ocean season to fresh water. After only 2 to 4 months of saltwater residence. They generally overwinter in fresh water before outmigrating again in the spring.
