Jonathon Gomez of Twin Falls, Idaho is looking to make it two in a row in the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series after claiming his first series win two weeks ago at Stockton Speedway. This weekend his challenge is the one-third mile paved oval of Madera (CA) Speedway; a track he has only visited once before.
The “Laps4LittleOnes.com 125” presented by NTS, Inc. and Pocket Radar is this Saturday night and is an event where he hopes to keep his momentum rolling. "I am kind of in the same boat as I was at Stockton," Gomez said of Madera Speedway. "I do have laps on the track but that was in a west car. Track position is everything here and I know the car will be good. The whole team has been on cloud nine since Stockton and we are really excited for the race to see what we can do."
The first challenge for Gomez will be in qualifying in order to secure an up front starting position. The tightly banked third-mile paved oval requires precision and patience. "You need tires at the end of a race and Madera can cause you to burn them up," Gomez offered. "The laps click off so fast. The key will be to qualify up front and stay there. My crew lead by chief Ron Copeland and the rest of the guys have done an awesome job so far this season and I know we will have a car that will run up front."
Gomez is currently 4th in the SRL standings just 27-points out of third place and 49-points out of first place. He has one win, top five and three top ten finishes in four starts this season. He has also shaved more than 100 points off point leader Derek Thorn.
Jonathon Gomez is in his fourth year of competitive racing having won local track titles at Magic Valley Speedway in Twin Falls and competed in various Late Model events the past couple of seasons. He has started 13 NASCAR K&N Pro Series races since 2008 scoring seven top ten finishes and currently sits fourth in the championship standings. Gomez will contend for championships in both the NASCAR K&N Pro Series and the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour this season.
Jonathon Gomez is supported by Heritage Cattle Company, Century Boatland, J&C Custom Harvesting, United Oil, Modern Machinery, DJ Safety, and Gomez Farms. The next NASCAR K&N Pro Series event for Gomez will be at Toyota Speedway July 3. The next event on the SRL schedule is July 17 at Toyota Speedway. Gomez will also compete in the CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series Idaho "200" weekend July 30- August 1 at Stateline Stadium Speedway in Post Falls, Idaho.
