Community Green Energy Gives Rosemont School District Free Solar Power Through ‘Solar For Schools'

The Rosemont School District will soon receive a 1kW solar panel at no cost. It will be financed by Community Green Energy (CGE), an organization founded to find new ways to finance green energy, as part of CGE’s ‘Solar For Schools’ program.

June 24, 2010 - PRLog -- The iconic images of the American school haven’t changed much over the years. The well-worn desk. The squeaky locker. The bell that signals the end of the day. But if Fritz Kreiss has his way, the iconic image for future generations of American schoolchildren will be the solar panels on the school roof.

The Rosemont School District #87 will soon be the first beneficiary of Mr. Kreiss’ plan when a 1kW panel is installed, at no cost, atop a district school. The installation will be financed by Community Green Energy (CGE), an organization founded by Mr. Kreiss in 2008 to find new ways to finance and promote green energy, as part of CGE’s ‘Solar For Schools’ program. The solar panel will provide the school with more than 1.3 megawatt hours of free electricity annually for the next twenty years. A web link from the panel will also allow students at the school to track information about the electricity generated by the panel.

“A small system like this won’t reduce the school’s overall electric use by that much,” says Kreiss. “But it makes green energy an everyday part of these students lives, and makes green energy a working, interactive reality.” The educational value of the panel is the primary benefit of the Solar For Schools program. “They can track the energy generated and calculate the reduction in the school’s carbon footprint,” he says. “Teachers can integrate the system into projects and laboratories. The school might even decide to use the money they save over the course of the year for a special field trip.”

Community Green Energy will finance the installation, valued at $6500, using funds generated by Cost Containment International, a CGE member business. “Sixty-five hundred dollars is the price of a small, demonstration solar system,” says Kreiss. “School districts don’t have that kind of funding lying around. Businesses like Cost Containment International join Community Green Energy to gain a marketing advantage in exchange for helping us finance solar power at no cost to the recipients. With Solar For Schools, businesses can work with other businesses and help make green energy a reality in a place that will have a profound impact on future generations. It is good publicity for them to say they’re involved, and schools get the panel and the power for free. Everybody benefits.”

Mr. Kreiss, who has been involved with the energy industry and renewable energy for almost twenty years, founded Community Green Energy with the goal of finding new ways to finance green energy in America, and to speed up the implementation of green energy at the local level. The Rosemont School District installation is a first step. “School is in session, and a little bit greener, as well,” he says.
