June 24, 2010 - PRLog -- WASHINGTON —Drawing a parallel from the failed response to Hurricane Katrina, Daniel Kaniewski and James Carafano point to the need for better coordination of international offers of assistance for the Gulf oil spill response in a Commentary released today by The George Washington University Homeland Security Policy Institute (HSPI).

Kaniewski and Carafano demonstrate the applicability of language from the previous Administration’s Katrina lessons learned report to the current crisis. They also call for better management of foreign aid offers and improved communication between US government agencies and foreign countries.

The authors conclude “…as oil continues to spew from the ocean floor, the Administration needs to learn how to say “yes” to the countries that can help bail us out from the disaster.”
