Warning - Deafness Claims Over Vuvuzela's Possible

The piece speculates that Premier League football clubs could be sued if vuvuzelas appear at grounds in England next season.

Love them or hate them, vuvuselas have been in the headlines and you can't have failed not to have heard them if you've watched any of the games.  Players and officials complain they stop them communicating while some fans say they are ruining the atmosphere.

The paper reports that Sainsbury’s has sold 38,000 of the plastic horns as the craze spreads to Britain.

The paper quotes: "Garret Spring, from the top Manchester law firm Pannone, said that match-day staff, such as stewards, could sue their bosses, and he even advised fans to bring ear plugs to games if the horns do take off on these shores.

He said: “Fans go to football matches like people go to rock concerts, both places are noisy and people know that before they go.

“The situation is different for employees, though, and stewards would be a case in point.

“They would be protected by noise at work regulations and clubs need to be aware that if they allow the vuvuzela into their grounds, they need to protect employees appropriately.

“Imagine 70,000-plus fans at Old Trafford with just one in 10 blowing a vuvuzela – that’s a pretty awesome sound that needs protecting against.

“It may seem funny but 100 decibels down your ear for 90 minutes is no joke.”"
