June 23, 2010 - PRLog -- In an ongoing effort to support American troops and veterans, rock band Hip Kitty will be one of the featured acts during the seven hour VETS ROCK Freedom Celebration at Limelight in Nashville, Tenn. on Thursday, July 1 starting at 7 p.m. Along with Hip Kitty, other featured bands and artists include Blessid Union of Souls, Artimus Pyle, Indigenous, as well as other local Nashville rockers including Kara Clark, Charlotte Medley, Jamie Saylor and LUNGE. Proceeds from the event benefit VETS ROCK, an organization whose mission is to provide veterans of the U.S. military with the basic needs of food, shelter and clothing.

In addition to supporting American veterans, Hip Kitty and their label, Luna Chica Records International, are taking their efforts one step further by encouraging fans to bring their gently used cell phones to the event to help support troops overseas. Each phone donated will be contributed to a national non-profit organization and is equivalent to providing an hour of talk time to soldiers abroad through pre-paid calling cards. To make it even more fun for fans to get involved, the person who donates the most cell phones at the show will win a personalized Hip Kitty Fan Package – which will include Hip Kitty music, merchandise and other fun surprises.

“We want our fans to come to the show and have a great time and support our veterans, but we also hope they'll get involved and bring their old cell phones to support our troops overseas,” said Jen Halverson, lead singer for Hip Kitty. “We thought this would be a perfect way to celebrate our freedom by doing something to support our vets and our active military.”

Supporting American troops is not new for Hip Kitty; it's part of their mission as a band. Hip Kitty has enthusiastically performed at several military bases, whose locations include: Curacao, Puerto Rico, Honduras, Bahrain and Kuwait.

Tickets for the VETS ROCK Freedom Celebration on July 1 start at $20 in advance or $25 at the door the night of the show. For more information, please visit www.vetsrock.org.
