Town Criers Go For The Sound of Silence - At Inglewood Manor

June 23, 2010 - PRLog -- OYEZ, Oyez, Oyez! Canny contenders in Chester’s International Town Crier Tournament checked into the Wirral’s luxury Inglewood Manor Hotel, days before the big event.

But they didn’t choose the hotel near Ledsham for its classic style, it’s ultra-comfortable bedrooms or the mouth-watering menu in its award winning restaurant.

“It was our unique setting in 38 rolling acres of Cheshire’s glorious countryside that clinched the deal,” revealed Inglewood’s General Manager Fiona Creed yesterday.

“Those contenders who stayed with us – and they included some from overseas – believed our beautiful rural locations would give them the opportunity to rehearse their performances at full volume without disturbing anybody else.

“Some of our other guests could hardly believe their eyes when they saw Town Criers, dressed in their ceremonial regalia, ringing their bells and bellowing to the skies. Happily their performances were out of earshot.”

Paul Gough, the town crier for Nuneaton and Bedworth and reigning British Champion said: “Inglewood was ideal for me because I was able to go through my routine in the beautiful surroundings without disturbing anyone. The hotel itself is stunning and really handy for Chester.”

Guy Vandendriessche, town crier for Izagem in Belgium added: “It was the perfect location of relaxation. Chester is a lively city and it was nice to escape to the country in the evening for a little peace and quiet.”

And Carole Williams, the Town Crier for Bishop’s Stortford and reigning ‘People’s Champion’ said: “Inglewood is the perfect training ground for a Town Crier. I belted out my routine and nobody even blinked.”

Fiona, however, was close enough confirm that all of her Tournament guests could give ear-splitting performances.

“They all sounded totally impressive,” she said.
