Workers in Andover Helping Target Shoppers Keep Their Cool

June 23, 2010 - PRLog -- As summer heat hits its stride, the town of Andover, KS will have played a key role in keeping Target shoppers cool nationwide.

Starting in January and continuing through this month, the assembly lines at Andover-based Vornado Air have been churning out tens of thousands of circulators (some might call them fans) bound for Target shelves nationwide for the Summer 2010 season.

The assembly of the 510 and 610 circulators required 20 workers on 2 different assembly lines. “From product design and engineering, to assembly, to quality control, to packing and shipping, the entire process is orchestrated at Vornado’s Andover headquarters at the hands of local employees,” said Dir. Supply Chain Operations, David Mercer. “It has a considerable positive economic impact on the local economy. Even the packaging was printed locally.”

In addition to Andover, many other Kansas towns play an important role in the manufacturing of these products. The fan blades are fabricated in Wellington, KS, and the entire high-impact plastic body and spiral grill assembly is fabricated in McPherson, KS.

The Vornado brand, which originated 65 years ago under the O.A. Sutton Company in Wichita, KS – has been building fans locally for decades. Vornado relocated its headquarters from Wichita to Andover in 1991. “Every Vornado product is conceived, engineered and supported in Andover,” said Director of Product Development Regan Axtell, “We have exceedingly high quality expectations for our products - The 510 and 610 are great examples of our domestic assembly capabilities.”
