By: Peter CLARKE The city accounts for 40% of Ontario’s GDP yet has a fiscal crisis caused by chronic spending increases of 4 times over 6 years to $8.7 Billion Dollars while incumbent councillors gave themselves a 12% salary raise over the next four years. In addition these same incumbent councillors, a majority of whom have been in office for over 15 years, voted to give themselves a Golden Severance Package of twice that established for Ontario workers when they are defeated at the polls by voters. Peter CLARKE has proposed that COUNCILLORS 12 MONTH GOLDEN SEVERANCE PACKAGE be RESCINDED as of October 25, 2010 once he is elected. PETER estimates this would save the taxpayers $4,999,236 MILLION dollars or $113,519 per councillor upon their defeat at the polls. In addition to this cost savings measure Peter CLARKE has proposed TEN PLUS basic strategies in his campaign mission platform to date. One other such proposal by Peter CLARKE is that councillors SALARY and EXPENSES be REDUCED by 25% effective October 25, 2010 and thereafter salaries would be limited to the annual rate of inflation. This salary cut would immediately save the taxpayers over $6 MILLION DOLLARS per year and over $27 MILLION DOLLARS over the 4 year term of office. Another controversial issue supported by CLARKE, as proposed by Rob Ford one of Toronto’s mayoralty candidates, is that citizens’ of Toronto could be better off with a 22 MEMBER COUNCIL . Peter CLARKE estimates this reduction from 44 councillors to 22 would immediately save the taxpayers over $61 MILLION dollars per year or $245,764,438 MILLION DOLLARS for the taxpayers over the current 4 year term of office. Peter CLARKE strongly believes that the voters of Toronto’s North York ward 23 along with all voters throughout Toronto are demanding for and Accountability, Transparency and Openness with New council members. “Toronto One City, Your Vote, Our Future Together, Begins on October 25, 2010 with your support throughout the North York Community.” http://peterclarketoronto.com # # # CLARKE an INDEPENDENT NOT a CAREER Politician or supporter of any political party, special interest group or lobbyists.
