June 23, 2010 - PRLog -- Pasadena, CA – 903,000 unemployed people have stopped receiving unemployment benefits as of June 19 because the Senate has not approved the unemployment benefits extension bill. If the bill is not passed before the July 4 recess, there will be two million people without benefits. This analysis has been made by Chad Stone, Chief Economist at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.

On top of this, there are also reports that employers are willing to hire only people who already have jobs. There have been documented instances with big firms doing this publicly, by asking for “currently employed only apply” conditions on their websites, only to back down when local media started reporting on them. Although no hard data is available, anecdotal evidence gathered from employment experts and job boards suggest, many employers follow the same policy without speaking about it publicly.

But A. Harrison Barnes, CEO of Hound, strikes an upbeat note over employment prospects. “People need to continue applying everywhere, no matter what the media tells you. It’s their job to report the news, and yours is to get one.” He notes that even though Nevada for example has the country’s highest unemployment rate now, his site has been able to dig up almost 4,000 jobs there. The site was also able to add over 92,000 jobs over the last seven days.

Here is the latest data on Hound on the sectors with most openings:

•   Admin jobs (27,546)
•   Customer service (25,032)
•   Financial Services (28,410)
•   Healthcare jobs (145,768)
•   Manager jobs (99,774)
