There’s Nothing Like Being Told You Have Cancer

“While I was sitting in the 'chemo room' with the transparent fluid dripping into my right arm---I wish I'd had a book like Chemo Club to read” said Louise Moeri, author of Chemo Club, published by Crosspointe Media, Inc. in Modesto, CA.

June 22, 2010 - PRLog -- No---Chemo Club is not the cure for cancer. What it does offer is a simple, funny, tale of one woman whose life exploded in all directions when a surgeon said, "It's cancer. I know it's cancer," and a cancer specialist outlined a plan of action.

Chemo Club follows Claudia Hartford as she pursues her goal of fighting cancer, at the same time it chronicles her chaotic and frequently bizarre attempts to gather up the fragments of her life and put together something altogether new and unexpected. And in the end---although there is really no end to a story like this---she finds she is---in so many ways---richer than when she started her struggle.

Louise Moeri has written a dozen books for children and young adults. Her first and most endearing was Star Mother’s Youngest Child, a timeless story of Christmas with an old woman and an engaging other-worldly child, fancifully illustrated by Trina Schart Hyman. The 43rd War, which tells the stirring story of children in unending war-torn country of Central America and how it affects their lives. This seering tale was selected for a Pen West Literary Award. First the Egg, a novel about a Marriage and Family class where students are paired, and each pair is assigned an egg to tend for a week as if it were an infant, was made into a movie starring Justine Bateman and aired as an After School Special.

Moeri is a long time resident of Manteca, CA having grown up in Stockton and lived most of her life in Northern California. She was born in Central Oregon from pioneer family and many of her stories harken back to that earlier place and time.
