June 22, 2010 - PRLog -- Mullion School opened in 1978, at present Mullion has 525 pupils, there are 38 teachers including full and part time staff and 15 teaching assistants. The students, staff, governors and parents are proud of their school, which serves the community on the Lizard peninsula.

In 2007 they gained Investor in People status, The Silver Artsmark Award. In 2005 they became a specialist school in the Performing Arts of Dance, Drama and Music. More recently Mullion have been given Healthy School and Dyslexia Friendly school status.

As with most schools they had achieved the maximum performance from their hardware but as the majority of the equipment was almost 5 years old it was necessary to start to look at a refresh.

Nick said “The whole project was a complete success my expectations were not only met in full but exceeded. I was very impressed with the approach and technical expertise of all Deverill staff involved; they are not only extremely knowledgeable but also a delight to work with. ”

With a forthcoming increase of students, the opportunity presented itself to look at various options. Whilst a straight new for old strategy was possible, Nick Blundell ICT manager felt that the benefits of Virtualisation could not be ignored. Nick appointed the help of one of the South’s leading managed services providers and IT training company, Deverill.

After discussions with Mullion School, Deverill designed and implemented a solution proving the school with a new virtualised environment that will last them for at least 6 years. The whole project was completed including an official VMware training course for the school’s IT Manager for a budget of less than Twenty Thousand Pounds.

The solution consists of 2 Dell Poweredge 410 servers, each with 2 quad core processors and 24gig of RAM, connected via an ISCSI fabric to a Dell MD3000 SAN, with 600Gig of SAS capacity for SIMMS and Exchange and 4 Terabytes of SATA storage for pupil data.

This solution has ensured the school has a highly resilient, cost effective, adaptable and scalable infrastructure to provision high quality IT services to both teachers and pupils alike.
