PRLog (Press Release) - Jun 21, 2010 -
The first Annual Festival of the Chess in the Library Organization will be held at the North York Central Library,(5120 Yonge Street, Toronto, On M2N 5N9) from 12:30-4:30pm, on Saturday, June 26th, 2010. The Chess in the Library (CITL) program is an initiative one years ago founded by a 15 years old IB high school student. The founder, Yuanling Yuan is a Women International Master in chess and presently ranked number one of all female chess players in Canada.

Currently, the CITL program is hosted weekly at 10 different Toronto Public Library branches and it has been a huge hit for the chess community in Canada. With the help of 40 student-volunteers who joined the organization team from time to time and a total donated value of up to $3000, CITL is able to provide more than 150 kids the opportunity to play chess in Toronto each week. The program’s main intention is to promote the magnificent game of chess in Canada and the organization plans to expand the program to various provinces of Canada in the next 2 years.

This Saturday will be the organization's one year anniversary and we will host a grand chess festival to celebrate – CITL 1st Annual Festival. The main event will be a chess tournament in which the top 10 chess players from each CITL location will gather together and compete for individual and team prizes. Side events such as puzzle competitions and activities with a giant chess set will surely attract many other non-CITL participants. Many CITL leaders, librarians and donors will be present during this celebration, in hopes of finding more individual and corporate sponsors for the upcoming school year.
