We have some inspirational artists and crafts people lined up to dazzle the public with demonstrations and the opportunity to purchase one off personal pieces. Sheffield born sculptor Oliver Meller will be demonstrating his stone carving with local natural wood and stone to depict natural forms, and local wildlife that dwell in and on the South Yorkshire Moors. Local crafters Inspiration 21 introduce have-a-go felt making to visitors. Felt making is still practiced by nomadic peoples in Central Asia to make their movable Yurt tents waterproof. Two examples of nomadic tribes’ shelter a Yurt and a Tepee will house storytelling and art activities for creative types. Get in touch with your inner cave person and have tribal markings painted onto your face by our professional face painter. Once you look the part you can have a go at making your own flint tools with expert flintknapper Karl Lee.
Over the weekend our director Ian Wall will be on hand to give guided tours of the exhibition and building. Ian talking about the event said “It’s a great opportunity to meet our supporters and visitors and show them the inner workings of the building an exhibition and why we are so very proud of what has been achieved”.
Tours will also be running in to the caves. ‘Ice Age tours’ in to Robin Hood Cave will explore how we used to live in the Ice Age and ‘Rock Art tours’ in to Church Hole Cave will give you the chance to see the wonderfully skilled images carved onto the walls and ceilings. The only place where you can stand in the footsteps of your artistic ancestors.
