June 21, 2010 - PRLog -- On Monday, June 21st, Dr. Terry Paulson kicks off the 2010 Youth Citizenship Seminar held at Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA. Dr. Paulson speaks on the topic, “Secrets of Life: Stories and Wisdom for Your Journey.” Dr. Terry Paulson, author of “The Optimism Advantage” and “Secrets of Life Every Teen Needs to Know” shares timely life lessons that will help teens manage their own self-confidence, learn how to live and work well with others, and develop an optimistic attitude and faith that will serve them well on their life’s journey.

“Few experiences are as satisfying as making a difference for America’s future leaders,” said Dr. Paulson. “Adults often say that I wish I had learned this in high school. The Youth Citizenship Seminar allows today’s youths to do just that.”

Started by former Pepperdine Dean of Students, Charles Runnels, the week-long Youth Citizenship Seminar (YCS) provides a unique learning experience for over 300 incoming seniors from high schools throughout Southern California. These young youth leaders are exposed to insights from such speakers as author and actor Ben Stein, Radio talk show host Dennis Prager, heavyweight boxing champion and entrepreneur George Foreman, and former Los Angeles Dodger manager Tommy Lasorda.

In addition hearing from world-class speakers and some of America’s most inspiring thought leaders, participants are nurtured through small group discussions, led by past YCS participants. The opportunity to share their dreams, their fears and opinions in a college atmosphere provides a memorable and lasting experience.

“I tell them that I’m just a teenager with old skin,” Paulson said. “Youthfulness is an attitude that you can bring to every day. You don’t want anyone to lose that sense of adventure or the ability to have big dreams. We all want these teens to test the limits of who they can be.”

The difficult economic times that America faces can provide an important learning lesson for today’s youth. “Life is difficult, and maturity comes in learning to handle increasing levels of challenges,” Said Paulson. “You don’t give teens self-esteem. You earn it. That’s were true optimism comes from.”
