Matt's Landscapes, Inc. did it again...... at the 2010 Bucks County Designer House & Gardens

June 19, 2010 - PRLog -- Once again Matt's Landscapes, Inc. has been invited to design and build an outdoor work of art, at the 35th annual Bucks County Designer House & Gardens.  The Designer House is a charity fundraiser that is run by the V.I.A. (Village Improvement Association).  Proceeds from the month long show go towards Doylestown Hospital and other local charities.  Each year a committee from the V.I.A. gets together to pick a new property to host the show.  This years show is on a 103 acre equestrian estate located at 1515 Sugar Bottom Rd. in Furlong, PA.  With a large central farmhouse, a two story jockey cottage, multiple barns and outbuildings this property provides numerous places for landscapers and designers to show off their skills.  The house and gardens are open from May 2-30th for the public to tour.  
This year Matt's Landscapes has chosen to renovate the front and side yards of the farmhouse.  Currently the front yard has a small concrete patio, pieces of broken stone laying in the grass, a few overgrown plants, and a large dead tree.  The side yard next to the Summer Kitchen is a steep slope of grass, with a large Lilac bush in the middle.  The design for the "The Gathering Garden", was inspired by the homes Summer Kitchen.  The original walk in fireplace with hand hewn timbers that serve as the mantle and lintel for the large window.  There is also a large window bench for people to enjoy the outdoors while sitting by the fire.  The new side yard will include a sunken patio made with large pieces of broken PA Flagstone.  Sitting walls made with PA Fieldstone and highlighted with growing moss will surround the entire patio.  A large 6' fire pit will also be built out of fieldstone in the center of the patio.  A large curved Red Oak Pergola will span the entire length of the patio, and act as a ceiling for this rustic and historic looking outdoor room.  The front yard has a new large patio and walls made with the same stones as the side.  Large flat boulders were used to create stepping stones from the driveway up to the patios.  The homes original well pump was turned into a fountain by sanding, painting, and adding plumbing through it.  A large basin was set at the foot of it to collect the water.  Fragrant lush gardens were added using a mix of Salvia, Yarrow, Viburnum, Multi-Stem Dogwoods, Boxwood, Chattahooche Phlox, and Hosta just to name a few.  The entire garden carries a beautiful ambiance well into the night with the help of 20 low voltage landscape lights.  For more information on Matt's Landscapes, Inc. and to see pictures of the Designer House ardens log onto http://www.mattslandscapes.com.  See live videos about this job and many others at http://www.youtube.com/mattslandscapesinc
