Local Input felt there was something missing. With the disappearance in recent years of so many smaller local newspapers, it seemed there was a loss of some of that small town feel to many of our communities as people increasingly turned to the internet to keep up with current events. It has become easier to find out what's going on, on the other side of the planet than it is to know what is going on around the corner tomorrow afternoon in your own town. It seemed to us that no one was taking care of keeping the community together. Our worlds were becoming increasingly fragmented and unfocused. It's just not right! We thought it would be nice to have a website for every town in the United States with a Zip Code. This way we could all go to one place to post information and get information about what is going on and what is available in our town and the immediately surrounding towns. This website would be an electronic town crier to let us know what was going on locally. Thus www.ZipCodeeDo.com was born. Let's see who she grows up to be!!
This Wonderful Geocentric Social Network, www.ZipCodeeDo.com, allows users to search a town's Zip Code or simply a town Name and then explore a wide variety of categories about that town. We chose Red Bank, New Jersey to be our sample town to give people an idea of what a town could start to look like when people start adding information about their town. Come take a peek! Red Bank's Zip Code is 07701.
When a user registers and then posts information on www.ZipCodeeDo.com, it will only be displayed within a 15 mile radius of the hometown. This way the information you see should be very local and pertinent information. That's just what we want. If you are looking for a limousine service in Northern New Jersey, you don't need information about taxi cabs in Atlantic City. This is just true for someone looking for a florist in San Francisco and getting results for one who caters to the San Diego community.
That's what we are trying to do. We would love it if 90% - 95% of the information on the website in a year was all input by users. That's why Registration and Posting are free! We will have 17 categories to start with, ranging from subjects as varied as "Charity, Civic& Religious", "Things Kids Do", "Bars & Restaurants"
The real wildcard will come when users start to populate these categories with their own businesses and events. Throw in your favorite Restaurant or Bar, Form a Running Club, Post a Garage Sale Notice, Register your Business, List an Item for Sale, Tell everyone about your Charity Fundraiser or your favorite place to take a jog. Let people know what they can do in the area with their kids and while you are at it you may find something to do with yours that you have never done before. List your house for sale or find out where to stay when you are visiting a friend. Get the local movie listing or find the nearest playhouse. We are curious to find out what will become of the website in the near term and immediate future. How will it morph? How will it be concentrated?
Some information about each town comes from large databases of information. This is especially true of the "Demographics and Stats." page. This type of information is also provided on the "Hospitals & Doctors" page where a user can quickly and easily find the nearest hospitals. The "Schools" page provides information about all the Public and Private schools in that Zip Code along with any colleges and universities as well as information about local public libraries. Users can also register and then post information in these categories about their schools and their health care providers. If you are a doctor you can post a little snippet to give yourself a little online presence to let the community that you serve what services you provide. Remember, the information will only display in the Zip Codes that are within 15 miles of the hometown Zip Code. Three other categories that have a good amount of information already provided are the "Useful Links", Store Locator" and "Running a House" categories. They are pretty much what they are advertised to be and we hope everyone finds them helpful.
We imagine the site will grow in fits and starts. Some towns will find it fun right away and they will fill up quickly. Other towns will have just a few people populating a large amount of the town. Unfortunately some town will sit for a while before users eventually play with them. Any way it happens, it will be fascinating to see how quickly it is adopted and how different groups and different towns choose to use it. Be part of the journey! ZipCodeedo.com will surely change in the next year. Please visit, register and post today to help choose the direction she will take. Let's see who she grows up to be!!
