June 18, 2010 - PRLog -- M5 Hosting, a worldwide leader in customized, high performance Linux and BSD dedicated server hosting solutions, announced today it has introduced a new data backup service, powered by R1Soft Continuous Data Protection™ (CDP) technology.

R1Soft Continuous Data Protection works by reading hard disk volumes at the sector level, bypassing the file system to boost performance and slash recovery times. This disk sector synchronization is performed while the server is online and provides no interruption to other I/O requests even on a busy server. By reading the disk at the lowest possible level, point-in-time recovery images contain backed up files and all the formatting, partition tables, and volume configuration needed for complete and near-instant disaster recovery.

M5 Hosting has been using R1Soft’s backup technology to protect important company information for the past year. Today’s announcement marks the availability of the technology for all M5 Hosting customers, who are able to purchase the data backup service as an add-on to their core hosting services.

The service starts at $50/monthly, which includes operating system backups, MySQL backups, and disk space to store 50GB of backups. M5 Hosting plans to expand the service in the coming months, including adding off-site remote backups.

"Over the past several years, our customers have indicated a desire for M5 Hosting to offer a viable and robust data backup solution. After extensively testing R1Soft CDP, we are impressed by its scalability and reliability. This technology is an important addition to our portfolio of add-on services for our customers," said Michael J. McCafferty, principal of M5 Hosting.

In March, M5 Hosting began operations in its second data center facility, an 80,000 square-foot purpose-built data center located in the San Diego Spectrum area of San Diego, California. Originally built to support a large defense contractor and its government contracts, the facility has recently been updated with the latest in highly-efficient power and cooling systems. The data center is a SAS 70 Type II compliant facility that features an impressive 12+ Megawatts of power, N+1 or 2N redundancy on all data center systems and security protocols required by leading businesses in the most stringent verticals. The facility is owned by American Internet Services, the largest data center provider in San Diego.
