TTI Environmental, Inc., an environmental consulting and contracting firm, has installed a 50 kilowatt solar system on their building in efforts to “go green”. In addition to celebrating a 25-year anniversary this year, TTI became the first commercial property in Moorestown to utilize solar energy to power its daily operations.
Bill Dolan, CEO of TTI, said the financial and environmental benefits are the reasons they decided to install solar. “I am very proud of what TTI has achieved so far. Going solar helps to lower our operating costs and makes environmental sense. Along with the continued confidence of our clients and the commitment of our employees, we expect the ecological benefits will be good business as well. I am certain that the company’s greatest accomplishments are still to come.”
Having the solar array on the building will account for 85% of total in-house electricity use which will take immediate pressure off of the grid along with electricity being provided by a renewable resource.
Based on the size of the 50 kilowatt system there is an environmental impact eliminating approximately 900 tons of carbon dioxide lessening its impact to global warming, eliminating approximately 9,000 lbs of sulfur dioxide with is the main cause of acid rain, and eliminating approximately 2,500 lbs nitrogen oxide which is the major contributor to smog. There is a four year payback due to state rebates, federal tax grants, energy savings and renewable energy certificates. The decision to go solar is also a defensive measure for businesses as electricity costs have gone up for last 30 years on average of 6.5 % every year. In its first year the new system will save over $10,000 in electricity costs. There is more pressure on a faster switchover to renewable, especially with the recent coal mine and oil disasters and supply volatility of carbon-based fuels.
TTI Environmental, Inc., located at 1253 North Church Street, Moorestown, NJ, is a multi-disciplined environmental service organization and a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB). The solar system was installed by Trinity Solar. Trinity is NJ largest solar provider, with over 1,000 installs, commercial and residential. Trinity won an outstanding achievement of renewable energy award from the Board of Public Utilities (BPU).
