Industrial design is the combination of art and science to improve the usability of a product. Whether at home, school, work, or play—people are surrounded by objects that are the result of the industrial design. May be it is furniture, toys, aircraft etc. Some believe that industrial design is restricted to only design of a product or a service. The industrial design process involves the creation of the product, improving the production process, execution of processes, branding, and packaging, design of the product and marketability of the product.
With the computer aided design, the whole business of design has speeded up. Concepts are tested with the help of computers, and prototype is not build, thus saving money.
Role of an Industrial Designer
The industrial designer is also sometimes referred to as product designer. The Industrial Designer who is responsible for the industrial design of the product should have the combined set of qualities of both arts and science. The industrial designer should be able to appreciate the relation between a product and its end user. The designer must also have knowledge of the production of the product, and must also have the knowledge of how much value is added to the product at each stage of its development. The role of industrial designer is to involve the engineering and technical teams the creative processes to ensure the feasibility of the product.
The industrial designer should be able to provide a product that will benefit the manufacturer and the user. So, the product has to be such that which will provide the good features, and also the marketing of the product has to be done in a well manner.
