Hearing Protection Radios - A Bad Idea Or An Amazing Combination?

Hearing protectors are recommended whenever you encounter extended periods of sound levels regularly exceeding 85 dBA—essentially, generally about the same where you feel the need to shout to be heard by someone just two or three feet away.

Reception Quality:
Reception strength may vary depending upon location, as would any radio system.  Many hearing protection radios allow you to save favorite stations, just like you would on any radio system.  Some systems get more fancy with LCD displays and digital tuning—some that might be good depending on the type of conditions you're working in.  I think that comes down to your personal preference on style.  
If you're more technically inclined and like to play around with iPods, MP3 players and such, you can find models of hearing protection radios that will meet your needs there as well.
