Born in the 1960s in Kingston, reggae soon became an international music, synonymous with freedom and rebellion. Best known through the work of huge superstar and icon Bob Marley, this major musical genre evolved through time, from Prince Buster's ska to rocksteady, dub with King Tubby all the way to the birth of rap with U Roy or Dillinger.
On this mysterious island arose Peter Tosh, Lee "Scratch" Perry and Jimmy Cliff. Reggae keeps supplying new stars (Yellowman, Sizzla, capleton, Sean Paul) and new styles (Shabba Ranks' ragga, Buju Banton) in the hot air of the island's dancehalls. It has become an internationally influential music through its inventions (rap, remix, dub) and widely contributes to the sucess of non-Jamaican artists such as Serge Gainsbourg, Alpha Blondy, Manu Chao or Tiken Jah Fakoly.
"Le Reggae" is already present in many public libraries and universities, but there has been many requests over the years for a new edition. Here it is at last.
A musician and a producer, a specialist of Jamaican music and its evolutions, legendary journalist for Best magazine, Bruno Blum has recorded with Bob Marley's musicians.
